Real Talk.
There are multiple ways to heal from trauma or to combat addiction. Often, when a juvenile or adult finds themselves going down the wrong path, the court will order an intervention program to help guide individuals to making better decisions and find healing. In recent years, communities have collaborated to bring incredible strategies and resources to those who are struggling. Sober living facilities and jail chemical addiction programs (J-CAP) are a couple proven strategies often accepted by the courts. Some other commonly recognized, therapeutic strategies include:
- Talk Therapy
- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
- Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT)
- Group Therapy
- Peer Support Groups
Let’s say, the court-ordered programs are complete. An individual graduates from sober living and finds independence again.
Then what?
According to a publication on the Family and Social Services Administration, 53% of individuals that become incarcerated have a substance use disorder (SUD) diagnosis and 16% have been diagnoses with serious mental illness (IN.GOV, n.d).
Did you know?
For the individuals returning to jail, the SUD increases to 75% (IN.GOV, n.d.)!
Why?
Modalities, such as therapy and intervention programs, are useful and proven to help!
BUT…there is STILL A GAP!
In some cases, individuals in recovery or struggling with mental health often have a type of underlying trauma.
